Short Biography

Professor Irfan Ahmad is a distinguished academic in the field of Anthropology-Sociology at Ibn Haldun University. He has held the position of Professor of Sociology at the university since March 2022. Prior to this, he was a Senior Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity in Germany and has served in various academic positions at Australian Catholic University and Monash University. Prof. Ahmad completed his Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Amsterdam and has an extensive publication record, including works on Islamic critical thinking, democracy in India, and the transformation of Jamaat-e-Islami. He is known for his critical approach to conventional sociological theories, especially in the context of Islam and modernity. His academic journey reflects a deep engagement with issues of religious and ethnic diversity, nationalism, and the interplay between religion and politics.
