The article by Assist. Prof. Tesnim Khriji, a faculty member of Ibn Haldun University’s Department of Sociology, which presents the findings of a research project carried out between 2020 and 2024 with the support of Horizon 2020, has been published in the Journal of Regional Security.
The article, adopting a neo-institutionalist approach, analyzes the impact of radicalization and violent extremism on state-institutional dynamics and practices in the context of Tunisia’s post-2011 political transformation. The authors highlight institutional constraints at the macro level, such as the slow pace of reforms, weak coordination, and resistance to change. The study demonstrates that the triangular dynamic between regional inequalities, socio-economic grievances, and uneven development has led to the failure of the long-standing governance-development model, resulting in growing frustration, particularly among young people.
The article emphasizes that an effective approach to combating violent extremism requires enhancing institutional coordination and conducting in-depth consultations with all relevant stakeholders, highlighting the need for inclusive and preventive policies designed in collaboration with communities and civil society.
We congratulate Assist. Prof. Tesnim Khriji and wish her continued success.
