Our PhD Candidate Muhammad Yusoph Ramos’s Book Review Published in an International Journal
The book review written by our Sociology PhD candidate, Muhammad Yusoph Ramos, has been published in RELACES, one of Latin America’s leading academic journals.

The book review written by our Sociology PhD candidate, Muhammad Yusoph Ramos, on the work Anthropology and Sociology of Emotions: Theoretical and Ethnographic Perspectives from Turkey and Beyond, edited by Prof. Dr. Ramazan Aras, has been published in Issue 48 of the international peer-reviewed journal Revista Latinoamericana de Estudios sobre Cuerpos, Emociones y Sociedad (RELACES), one of Latin America’s leading academic publications.

In his article, titled "Mapping Emotional Currents in Modern Turkey: A Critical Interdisciplinary Review," Ramos comprehensively analyzes the work, which is published by Ibn Haldun University Press. He emphasizes that the book is a "groundbreaking intervention" that re-examines the central role of emotions in understanding Turkey's social, political, and cultural fabric. Highlighting the book's strengths, Ramos praises its multi-layered approach, which draws from various disciplines such as anthropology, sociology, history, and theology. He particularly underscores how concepts from local and Islamic intellectual traditions, such as "Ummah-hood" and "hüzün," enrich Western-centric theoretical frameworks.

Also presenting a critical perspective with academic rigor, Ramos constructively points out the absence of a unified concluding chapter, the potential for deeper gender and class analyses, and the lack of quantitative data.

This achievement by Muhammad Yusoph Ramos stands as a concrete demonstration of the critical thinking, analytical skills, and academic research competencies that Ibn Haldun University instills in its students. A young scholar making his voice heard on an international platform by analyzing a work published by his own university not only contributes to his own academic future but also serves as an inspiration for other students.

We congratulate our student Muhammad Yusoph Ramos for this valuable contribution and wish him continued success in his academic career.
