Our PhD Candidate Nesibe Demir presented a paper titled “Becoming the Subject of Hope within Collectivities: The Experiences of ‘Religious Youth’ in Türkiye” at the 50th Annual Conference of the British Sociological Association – Sociology of Religion (SocRel), held in Durham/UK, between 14–16 July.
The presentation, based on her ethnographic research, addressed the impasses of postmodern subjectivity debates and sought to demonstrate how Muslim youth, situated within the diversified dynamics of family life, institutional and voluntary collective formations, embody their subjectivity as ‘subjects of hope’ by internalizing and continuously rearticulating certain dispositions, also developing resistances through a consciousness of Islamic responsibility.
This study by Demir is expected to provide a significant basis for her dissertation defense through its in-depth analyses and original contributions to the field.
We congratulate our student and wish her continued success.
