Our PhD Student Mushtaq Ahmad Wani Accepted as a Researcher in TÜBİTAK-Funded Earthquake and Religion Project
Our Sociology Department PhD student Mushtaq Ahmad Wani has been accepted as a Researcher in a TÜBİTAK-funded research project examining the relationship between religion and human experience in the context of the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes.

Our Sociology Department PhD student Mushtaq Ahmad Wani will take part as a Doctoral Researcher in the project titled “Religion–Human Relationship in the Context of the Kahramanmaraş-Centred Earthquakes: Case Studies and Theoretical Reviews”, supported by TÜBİTAK.

The project is carried out under the coordination of Prof. Recep Ardoğan from Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University. The research aims to examine, through both theoretical and field-based approaches, the relationship between religion and human experiences in the context of the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes, which caused great destruction in Turkey’s recent history.

One of the aspects that drew the attention of the project team was Wani’s doctoral field research conducted in Kahramanmaraş. In his dissertation titled “The Role of Religious Organizations’ Volunteers in Disaster Resilience: A Case Study of Kahramanmaraş-Based Earthquakes”, Wani focuses on the role of religious communities in disaster processes by employing in-depth interviews and participant observation techniques.

Thanks to his fieldwork conducted directly with communities affected by the earthquake and the analytical perspective he has developed, Wani is expected to make a meaningful contribution to the project.

As the Sociology Department of Ibn Haldun University, we congratulate our PhD student for taking part in this significant project and wish him continued success in his academic studies.
