Our Visiting Researcher Dr. Dalal Bajes Delivered a Presentation at the International Conference on ‘Resilient Communities, Resilient Archives’
Dr. Dalal Bajes, a visiting researcher in our University’s Department of Sociology, delivered a presentation at the online international conference titled “Resilient Communities, Resilient Archives.”

Dr. Dalal Bajes, a visiting researcher in the Department of Sociology at Ibn Haldun University, participated in the international online conference “Resilient Communities, Resilient Archives” held on 5–7 December with her presentation titled “Elegies of War: Digital Lamentations and Martyrs’ Testaments as Tools of Collective Memory in Palestine.” In her talk, she examined how digital platforms—through farewell videos, martyrs’ testaments, and community-led sharing practices—transform into critical archives of Palestinian collective memory during times of war and erasure. Dr. Bajes elaborated on her methodology, which combines digital ethnography, content analysis, and digital oral history approaches, drawing attention to the challenges of conducting research based on virtual archives.

Organized as part of the Archives and Digital Media Lab’s “Fighting Erasure” initiative, the conference brought together archivists, memory workers, cultural custodians, and researchers from Palestine, Lebanon, and the Global South. The event addressed issues of heritage preservation, memory, and resistance within contexts of conflict and dispossession.

We congratulate our researcher and wish her continued success.
