Postdoc Researcher Havva Yılmaz’s Article “Islamism and Cinema” Published in Tezkire Journal

Our postdoctoral researcher Assist. Prof. Havva Yılmaz has published her latest article, titled “Islamism and Cinema: An Examination from the Perspective of the Sociology of Emotions” in the March 2026 edition of academic journal Tezkire.
Written in Turkish, the article explores the evolution of Islam-focused films in Türkiye since the 1950s. Assist. Prof. Havva Yılmaz examines the emergence of “Islamic cinema” as a popular trend in the late 1980s, analyzing its dynamic relationship with Islamism as a social movement through the lens of the sociology of emotions.
The study further traces the transition of this cinematic trend as it gradually moved away from the big screen and transformed into television series. This work offers a significant contribution to the literature on how cinema has played a pivotal role in shaping Islamic communities and identity in Türkiye.
We congratulate her and wish her success in the future studies.
