On September 30, 2025, the Department of Sociology at Ibn Haldun University, in collaboration with Başakşehir Social Services, hosted a presentation titled “On the Values That Strengthen Family Ties.” In the event, distinguished scholars shared their research examining the family from various sociological perspectives. The discussions focused on the position of the family between tradition and modernity, the impact of neoliberal policies on family structures, the role of women’s labor in maintaining family bonds, and the reflections of violence dynamics on intra-family relationships.
Prof. Alev Erkilet analyzed the place of the family in Turkey’s social transformation process and the changes it has undergone. Assist. Prof. Arzu Ünal discussed the effects of neoliberal policies on family structures, explaining how economic systems influence family values and responsibilities. Research Assistant Nüseybe Karagöz emphasized how family bonds can be reinterpreted from the often-overlooked perspective of women’s labor. Research Assistant Yunus Yeşil examined the phenomenon of violence, which undermines the institution of the family, exploring its various dimensions and revealing its impact on intra-family relationships.
Closely followed by both academics and students, the event provided an important platform for addressing the contemporary challenges faced by the family institution and exploring potential solutions to these issues.
