Visiting Researcher Dr. Dalal Bajes from our University's Department of Sociology presented a paper at the 6th Annual Black Feminist and Womanist Theory Workshop held in the USA.

Dr. Dalal Bajes, Visiting Researcher in the Department of Sociology at Ibn Haldun University, participated in the 6th Annual Black Feminist and Womanist Theory Workshop, organized by the Gender and Sexuality Center at the University of Rhode Island in the USA. Dr. Bajes presented her paper titled “Carceral Blackness and the Hegemony of Palestinian Identity: Afro-Palestinian Women’s Narratives of Resistance, Race, and Belonging” at the workshop, which was held from November 6-8, 2025.

The workshop, the sixth of which was held this year, stands out as an important platform that brings together academics, activists, and artists from various disciplines and professional fields. It also aims to share work that highlights the intellectual contributions of Black women, "femmes," and gender-expansive individuals within the African diaspora.

Dr. Bajes's study focuses on the experiences of Afro-Palestinian women living in the African Quarter of Jerusalem and the West Bank. It deeply examines how these women express their identities, sense of belonging, and forms of resistance within a "carceral colonial order."

Participants had the opportunity to attend the event, which took place at the University of Rhode Island's Kingston Campus, either in person or online via Zoom.
