2nd Sociology Days ( 28 - 30 April 2023)

2nd IHU Sociology Days:  Student Research Symposium “Crises and Transitions: Inequality, State, Politics, and Society in the Current World Order”

Ibn Haldun University Sociology Department and IHU Societal Research and Thought Club are pleased to announce the second IHU Sociology Days: Student Research Symposium.

The symposium will be held on April 28-29-30, 2023, at Ibn Haldun University, Istanbul, Turkey. This year’s symposium will bring undergraduate and graduate students together to discuss the theme of “Crises and Transitions: Inequality, State, Politics, and Society in the Current World Order.”

Recent years have been characterized by a number of major crises. The migrant crisis and precarious borderlands, the sharp rise of nationalism and politicization of identity and belonging, and the question of resistance and agency in social movements are just a few of the various issues posing a challenge to the hegemony of the current world order. In light of these events, this student symposium seeks to explore the emergence of the social, political, and cultural transformations that have emerged in response to these crises. Through a comprehensive interdisciplinary approach, this symposium aims to cultivate critical analyses and alternative perspectives to facilitate scholarly discussions and intellectually-rigorous solutions to the ever-shifting transformations of contemporary societies.

We highly encourage submission of papers that explore new approaches and paradigms in light of the theme of this symposium. Additionally, we encourage students to engage with and extend their analyses on a number of focal areas such as, but not limited to:

  • Structure and Change in Societies and Cultures
  • The Question of Posthumanism
  • Natural Disasters and Social Effects (Earthquakes, Floods, etc.)
