Our Sociology MA Student Bushra Turk’s Article Published in the Journal of Education in Muslim Societies
Our student Bushra Turk’s article, which addresses the discrimination faced by headscarved teachers in private education, has been published in an international academic journal.

The article titled “Unveiling the Veil of Discrimination in Türkiye’s Private Education Sector”, written by our Sociology MA student Bushra Turk, has been published in the Journal of Education in Muslim Societies.

The article discusses discriminatory hiring practices targeting professional headscarved teachers in Türkiye’s private education sector. The research is based on 24 in-depth surveys conducted with headscarved teachers applying to private schools, as well as interviews with recruitment agencies and human resources managers at leading private schools in Türkiye.

One part of the article includes an analysis of the history of education following the foundation of the Republic. The findings reveal an entrenched ideological perspective that prevents some private schools from adopting fair and open-minded hiring policies. According to the author, the marginalizing stance of many private education institutions and the acceptance of this situation by headscarved teachers contribute to a “paralysis of transformation” in Türkiye’s private education system.

This study provides a critical perspective on hiring practices in Türkiye’s private education sector and makes a significant contribution to the field. We congratulate Bushra Turk on her work and her academic contribution at the international level, and we wish her continued success.
