“İslam’ın Beş Şartının Hikmetleri” (The Wisdom of the Five Pillars of Islam) by the renowned Chinese Muslim scholar Liu Zhi, translated by our PhD candidate Sevde Öztürk in collaboration with Naoki Yamamoto, has been published by Pınar Publications on March, 2026.
Liu Zhi, widely regarded as the “Al-Ghazali” of his region, interprets Islamic sciences through the lens of traditional Chinese thought, developing a unique scholarly perspective. In this work, he establishes a system he calls “tri-polar knowledge”, which explores the intricate relationship between God, the Earth, and humanity.
The book moves beyond a simple explanation of religious duties, presenting the five pillars as universal principles that harmonize the divine order with the material world.
This decent translation by Sevde Öztürk provides a significant contribution to the study of Chinese Islamic thought, offering insights into how spiritual and earthly realms intersect to achieve balance and justice.
