The Sociology and Comparative Literature Departments of our university organized a joint event titled "Colonial Heritage, Cultural Genocides and Textual Studies" on Friday, November 3 at ITBF 2.22. Our guest Prof. Siraj Ahmed from the City University of New York spoke on the topic of "Colonial Legacies, Cultural Genocides and Textual Studies". With the participation of our professors and students from the Departments of Sociology and Comparative Literature, the effects of colonialism on culture and society were discussed. In the event, the colonial nature of the modern nation state was emphasized by emphasizing that the concept of sovereignty produced by the modern nation state leads to the perception of a certain group of people as "other".
Prof. Ahmed emphasized that texts reflect the point of view of the powers that produce knowledge and that the text should be approached as a colonial tool, and concluded his speech by mentioning the necessity of examining history grammatically and language historically.
